Streamline your Capture One workflow

The Picflow macOS app integrates directly with Capture One, allowing photographers to upload selected images, or entire sessions, straight into Picflow galleries. The integration automatically handles exports, includes edits, and provides real-time progress and error handling, making it effortless to share your work directly from your desktop.

Setup

Once you install the Picflow macOS App, Capture One will be automatically detected. Please note that this is not a standard plugin but a standalone app.

First time setup:

  1. Open the Picflow App and log in to your account.

  2. Select a gallery and visit the Upload tab.

  3. You’ll see Capture One listed once it’s running.

  4. Click "Allow Access" to grant Picflow permission to control Capture One.

  5. On the macOS automation dialog, click "Allow" to confirm.

After setup, the Picflow app can read your current Capture One document (Catalog or Session) and detect which variants are selected.

If you have issues, see the Troubleshooting section below for details.

Uploading from Capture One

Once permissions are granted, Picflow automatically detects your Capture One sessions and catalogs. No configuration needed.

How it works

  • Create or choose a Target Gallery in the Picflow macOS app.

  • Select your desired Variants in Capture One.

  • In the Upload Tab, Picflow will display the count (e.g., “123 variants selected”)

  • Click Upload and Picflow will upload the selection to your chosen gallery.

Multiple Capture One sessions can be open simultaneously. Picflow handles them automatically.

Upload Options

  1. Default Upload (Recommended)
Uploads to Picflow using recipe settings with all edits.

  2. Upload Originals
Uploads RAW files directly without exporting.

Picflow Export Recipe

When uploading for the first time, Picflow automatically creates an Export Recipe inside Capture One called “Picflow Upload.”

About the Recipe:

  • Location: ~/Library/Application Support/Picflow/CaptureOneExports/

  • Settings: JPEG, 90%, sRGB

  • Cleanup: Exports are automatically deleted after upload.

This recipe ensures your edited files are exported to a known folder that Picflow monitors in real time. You can customize recipe settings, such as format options, watermarking, resizing, etc but you should never change the output location.

⚠️ Do not change the export location of the Picflow Upload recipe.

Troubleshooting

Missing Permission

If you didn’t allow automation access for Picflow during the first prompt, you’ll need to enable it manually in Settings:

  1. Go to Apple → System Settings → Privacy & Security → Automation.

  2. Find Picflow in the list and toggle on Capture One under Picflow’s permissions.

  3. Restart both apps and try again.

Recipe or Folder Errors

If exports fail, hangs, or files don’t appear, do the following:

  • Ensure the “Picflow Upload” recipe exists in Capture One.

  • Check that its export location is set to: ~/Library/Application Support/Picflow/CaptureOneExports/

  • If missing or broken, delete the recipe. Picflow will recreate it automatically the next time you try to upload.

Capture One Not Detected

Picflow supports multiple Capture One versions and dynamically detects your installed version. If Capture One doesn’t appear in Picflow:

  • Make sure Capture One is running.

  • Confirm you’re using macOS 15 or newer.

  • Restart both applications

  • Select a gallery and open the Upload tab.

If this didn't help, please screenshot the "About Capture One" dialog, which includes the version and build, and sent it to: help@picflow.com.

Tips & Best Practices

  • Always keep your macOS app updated to the latest version for improved compatibility.

  • Avoid modifying the Picflow Upload recipe output folder.

  • Use Export & Upload for web-ready images and faster client sharing.

  • Verify that Capture One’s output folder is valid (especially for Catalogs).
