Learn how to find asset selections in Lightroom.

Updated over a week ago

For Lightroom users, the Copy Filenames feature simplifies the process of locating a selection. It generates a list of all assets from a selection and formats it specifically to work with Lightroom's search functionality. Copy the list and paste it into Lightroom's search bar. Lightroom will instantly display all matching images.

Copy Filenames in Picflow

  1. Select assets in Picflow. You can manually select multiple assets with "โŒ˜+Click" or use the filter options in the sidebar.

  2. Once you've selected the assets, press "โŒ˜E" or click the export icon to open the Export Dialog. The first tab of the Export Dialog is Filenames.

  3. Use "Comma Separated" and optionally add the filename extension. You can also append specific file extensions (e.g., .jpg or .raw) or add "*" to include the original file extension of the uploaded file.

  4. Click "Copy Filenames" to save the list to the clipboard.

Find Assets in Lightroom

  1. Open Lightroom and press "โŒ˜F" (or go to "Library โ†’ Find" from the top menu).

  2. Configure the search settings to "Filename" and "Contains".

  3. Paste the copied filenames from Picflow into Lightroom's search box. Lightroom will automatically display all matching assets.

  4. You can now flag or label those assets and begin editing/retouching as needed.

Why are there extra Images in Lightroom?

When using the "Contains" filter, Lightroom may retrieve files with similar sequences in the filenames. For example, searching for "IMG_1" may also bring up "IMG_1001". To avoid this, we recommend the following options:

  • Add the filename extension to the copy list in Picflow.

  • Update your filename convention "IMG_0001".
